Context & Background

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament involved nine host cities across England, with London hosting five matches at Brentford and Wembley Stadium.

The Greater London Authority required specialist support to coordinate Command, Control and Coordination planning across all London matches and associated city activations, while ensuring strong engagement with city wide stakeholders and emergency service partners.

The Challenge

The GLA required an experienced specialist to oversee Command, Control and Coordination planning for all London hosted Women’s EURO 2022 matches and related activations.

The role required extensive experience in command and control operations, detailed knowledge of London’s operational landscape and strong relationships with city wide agencies and stakeholders involved in tournament planning.

Approach & Solution

Controlled Events, supported by One Plan, coordinated and developed the city wide Command, Control and Coordination plans for all Women’s EURO 2022 matches hosted in London.

Two major readiness sessions were delivered, including an internal exercise for the core delivery team and a wider multi agency simulation exercise involving key external stakeholders and partners.

The readiness sessions allowed all parties to test operational plans, validate procedures and implement adjustments ahead of the first tournament matches.

Controlled Events also staffed the regional Host City control room throughout key event days, supporting operational coordination, incident management and stakeholder communication across London venues and activations.
