Context & Background

Our aim was to build a better spread of knowledge across both the Stadia and Event Teams in Hull, and the course absolutely delivered on that.

In fact, it exceeded our expectations, particularly in terms of what our partner organisations gained. We now share a much stronger understanding of each other’s roles, challenges, and responsibilities.

The Challenge

Standardising and benchmarking control room operations across multiple organisations required partners to better understand how decisions, communications, and operational responsibilities impact live environments.

A key challenge was creating a shared operational understanding between different agencies, teams, and stakeholders while ensuring the learning remained directly relevant to Hull’s real world operational context.

Approach & Solution

Standardising and benchmarking our control room operations was especially valuable from the perspective of someone with experience in the field.

I brought a wide range of partners into the training because I wanted them to see what we do, why we do it, and how their actions, or lack of action, can impact operations.

The course achieved exactly that. There is now a new level of respect, engagement, and appreciation among partners and the Events Team, and I genuinely believe this enhanced knowledge will lead to more helpful, collaborative working going forward.

Delivery Highlights

One standout aspect of the course was the delivery team. They genuinely wanted to be there and showed real interest in how Hull operates and how our partners work.

This created a true joint learning environment where everyone felt heard and valued. Their insights, support, and willingness to tailor discussions to our city made the experience far richer than we expected.

Outcomes & Impact

Overall, the bespoke course was an incredibly worthwhile investment for Hull, strengthening partnerships, improving understanding, and raising the standard of control room operations across the board.

“I can't emphasise how much I enjoyed the course and found it so useful. A fantastic course that really has helped.”
