Meet the Team
Rob Walley
Rob is an experienced events, resilience and readiness professional who has led on a wide range of resilience, training, control room and readiness ranging from exercising each competition venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to leading control rooms for the King’s Coronation, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Remembrance Sunday, SailGP Season 1-5, the 35th and 37th America’s Cup events, The Boat Race (2017-).
Hannah Walley
Hannah brings over 15 years of commercial experience within London’s hospitality sector, where she led and supported teams across a wide range of high-profile events and private dining operations. In response to the seismic challenges of 2020, she joined Controlled Events to assist with client communications during a time of significant operational change. Now, five years on, Hannah oversees logistics and operational delivery across the business, ensuring resilience and responsiveness remain at the core of Controlled Events’ services.
Aislinn Maiden
Aislinn is an experienced Manager who has led lifeguarding and water safety teams for over 10 years. Aislinn is also trained as a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor and Trainer Assessor through the American Red Cross, Highfield and The Royal Life Saving Society. Aislinn has developed training for Rescue Ready Learning, designed and delivered training and Exercises including Sail GP, Remembrance Sunday, EPC Conference, Central London Multi Agency Exercises as well as supporting Event Control Rooms such as Sail GP, Henley Regatta, The Boat Race and Southport Air Show.
David Hay
David first worked with Controlled Events in 2023 on training and exercises. David is a fully qualified and accredited security professional, with over 30 years operational and tactical experience in Counter Terrorist and Major Crime Search, CBRN response, Public Order and Public Safety Operations. David teaches on our Control Room Operations Management course and is used to operating in dynamic and challenging environments with a solid training background, working across a breadth of major events globally including Head of Security for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Alan Tungate
Alan and Rob have worked together on a range of events going back to Borough work in 2006 in Wembley. Alan is a Health & Safety and Crowd Management Consultant with a specialism in the events sector. Alan focuses on planning, command & control, risk assessment and crisis management.
Alan teaches on our Control Room Operations Management course. Alan is an expert in managing crowds, events licensing, safety advisory groups and contingency planning.
Andy Houghton
Andy and Rob first worked together in 2017 on the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda. Andy has over thirty years’ experience in resilience and crisis management in many roles across policing, local authority and the private sector, supporting local level multi-agency operational and doctrinal development. Andy has supported Controlled Events’ support to the Houses of Parliament including the live Rehearsal at the Methodist Central Hall in December 2017, teaches on our Control Room Operations Management course. as well as strategic exercises.
Melanie Cook
Melanie and Rob first worked together on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Melanie is a senior event and project management specialist with nearly 30 years’ experience delivering large-scale events, operational programmes, and business change initiatives.
Melanie has led readiness and delivery for clients elsewhere such as The All England Lawn Tennis Club, ARUP, Arcadis, Heathrow Airport, and Manchester Airport. Melanie has led on operational readiness and documentation development for Controlled Events.
Roger Hooker
Roger and Rob first met at Wembley during the London 2012 Olympics. Roger is an international major events and venue operations leader with nearly three decades of experience delivering world-class sporting, cultural, and entertainment events. He has held senior roles across venue operations, event delivery, and consultancy, combining expertise as an event promoter, venue operator, services provider, and strategic advisor.
Most recently, Roger served as Chief Operations Officer at Excel London, directing operations for a 100,000 m² venue and campus that annually hosts over 400 events and 4 million visitors. Previously, as Global Event Delivery Director for the FIA Formula E World Championship, he oversaw 78 international races across 20 cities, managing all aspects of venue operations, guest experience, and event services.
Anthony Upshall
Anthony first worked with Controlled Events in 2024 and is an experienced Command, Control and Communications (C3) specialist with a background spanning over 15 years in command and control, including time with the Metropolitan Police Service. Drawing on 25 years as a self-employed technology consultant—primarily within the NHS—he brings a rare combination of operational leadership and medical systems expertise to event safety and coordination.
A certified international healthcare CIO and Fellow of the British Computer Society, Anthony has delivered calm, effective control room leadership across a wide range of events, from European music festivals to international sailing finals and high-attendance UK sporting fixtures. His dual expertise in IT systems and public safety operations makes him a trusted asset for large, complex, and multi-agency environments.
